Here are a few pictures that I took yesterday afternoon. I have more and will find a place to put them for those that are interested.

These are just two of many that I took and I'm sure I'll be back for more before the train leaves.

A special treat for rail fans

Well the U.S. Open has brought a special treat for rail fans with it. On my way home from church this morning I stopped at Oakmont bakery to pick up a cake for my mother in laws birthday. As I came down Pennsylvania Avenue I was greeted at the railroad crossing by a polished and shinny Norfolk Southern passenger engine that looks like it just stepped out of a time machine from a few decades ago. Behind it are a string of Norfolk Souther passenger cars. All look like they just came out of the factory gleaming in black and maroon with gold lettering.

They will be parked here for the extent of the Open, June 11th through the 17th, and the really great news is that you can get “up close and personal” if you want to take pictures. They are parked right along Oakmont's walking path on Allegheny Avenue and so you can get pictures from there and from slightly above them on Allegheny River Boulevard.

I didn't have my camera with me but I will go down latter today and take some pictures that I will post here on the blog.
